| Bitter-Sweet |
| Thursday, June 12, 2008 |
I got a job! I got a phone call today from my old boss at the "temporary" job. I talked with her yesterday, asking if she had anything...the answer was no. Today, she called and said "Do you still want a job?" Sweet! So I said yes. Then I asked where. That is where the bitter part comes in. Unfortunately, one of my good friends crossed the line, and was let go. It was hard to celebrate, when I knew and understand just what Nicole was going through at that very moment. I called Nicole, and made sure she was okay with me taking the job. She understood, and said she would rather it be me than anyone else. I start on Tuesday! Labels: job |

| Don't Make Me Beg....I will do it! |
| Friday, February 15, 2008 |
Since January 30th I have been "temporarily" working for a local management company. They had a job for me for the month of February only. They have already hired a manager for the property I am filling in at, but she can't start until March 1. So for 17 days I have worked for this company...and I have to say, I really like working here. I mean, REALLY REALLY like it. The property is only 108 units (I had 220 before), I'm the only person in the office (There were 2 others before), but life is just easier here. It's quiet here. Nobody is setting buildings on fire. No one is stealing cars, or breaking into apartments. The kids are busting the door to fitness center. It's just nice here. I want to stay.
On a side note, I have tried to contact Human Resources for the old company to "tattle" on my old boss. I am going to demand my job back. I don't actually want it anymore, but I'm still going to demand it. My plan is to get her fired, set my assistant up for a promotion & find me another job with another company or property. I really didn't realize how demanding that job was until I left. So I really don't want it anymore. But I want things done the right way. So even if I get my job back, I'm going to quit soon after.
Well, that's it for now.
Damian got me flowers yesterday. First time in our 2 year relationship....it's about time!Labels: job, new job, Valentine, wrongful termination |

| I'm such a bad blogger |
| Friday, January 18, 2008 |
I only post about once every week & a half these days, and even then, I don't actually read blogs...I just update. It's kinda sad that I went from the 3 or 4 times a day of posting and reading to just every once in a while to almost never.
Today SUCKED. I lost my job today. You know, because having cancer & being out of work for 2 months over the Christmas holidays wasn't enough. I'm really down and out today, so please excuse the pity party I am having. Yes ladies & gentlemen...this 27 year old mother is moving back home to Mommy & Daddy. I'm turning in my adult card, and running back to Mommy and Daddy for help. I'm like a crippled dog on the side of the road...someone please just put me out of my misery.
Step 1 in the healing process...self pity...check! Step 2...anger...check! That's as far as I have gotten.Labels: job, job search, lost job |

and being back at work is not as hard as I thought it would be. But be sure to pray for Mandypoo today. It's her first day back at work since Eli was born. I know it broke her heart to drop him off at daycare today.
On a side note, the retard whom my boss hired to run the new property up the road instead of transferring me was fired on Friday. She was truely not capable of doing the job, so she needed to go, but I do feel bad. Her husband was already out of work, and now she lost her job too. Just makes me go..."Hmm. I thought I told you she was going to fail 6 months ago. Oh, and Hmm...didn't I tell you not to hire the other girl you had to fire last week.?" So in the words of Bring it On "That's strike 2!" Really, I just hope my boss's boss realizes the poor decisions she has made lately and let's her go. Wishful thinking, I know!
Still haven't been paid, so still no internet. Well other than parking in the Krystal parking lot & stealing Wi-Fi! Can we say Ghetto?!
OH! I almost forgot! When I met Damian he played arena football. This last year he didn't play. The team he was on folded & he didn't really have a desire to get picked up by a team, so he took a year off. Well, he had a work out for a new league, the AAFL (All American Football League). He is in the draft which takes place on January 25th, so keep your fingers crossed. I'm hoping for Florida or Tennessee, and praying he doesn't get picked up by Michigan. I don't do cold!Labels: AAFL, football, job, Mandypoo |

| I Think My Heart Just Might Stop Beating |
| Friday, January 4, 2008 |
I went back to the doctor yesterday. I have been released to work. I go back on Monday. I am not excited. In fact, whatever the opposite of excited is...multiply that by 127 and that is how I feel. I swear I have had 4 mini heart attacks this week. Okay, so not really, but you know when you get that intense pain in your chest that lasts about 3 seconds every once in a while? Well, I usually get it about once or twice a year. I have had it 4 times this week. I know it's stress...the stress of going back to that God Forsaken place I call work. I just knew I would have another job by now, and wouldn't be going back, but things have just not worked out like that for me. For once in my life I know what it feels like to NEED a job.
Seriously. This is the first time in my life I have interviewed for a job that I was not offered. I have applied to plenty that I haven't heard back from, but never have I interviewed and not been offer. Oh, I am a real people person. And I have that "way" about me where I can convince you that I can do anything. And most of the time I can. Not because I'm awesome or anything (well I am though), but because I would never convince you I could do something if I didn't think I could.
But luck would have it....it didn't work for me. Truth of the matter is, I only interviewed for 1 job I didn't get offered. He told me he couldn't afford me. I told him, it was in his best interest to find a way to afford me. (Ballsy, huh?) Well that backfired! I was confident that if he didn't hire me, someone else would. Unfortunately, NO ONE ELSE IS HIRING!
Well, I only get 1 hour on the library computer. And I am down to 21 minutes...and have a few more job sites to search. But for now I wanted to update my buddies. Sorry I didn't have time to check in with each of you. I would need WAY more than an hour for that!
Happy New Year!
*PS. Holy Crap! A first..."No Misspellings Found" That never happens; I am a terrible speller!
*PSS. I misspelled "misspellings" in my ps and ruined the whole thing!Labels: heart attack, job, job search, stress, update |

| Mark the Date |
| Friday, December 14, 2007 |
Remember my "Mark the Date" comment from Monday? Just 4 days ago my little world turned upside down (well even more upside down) when my boss fired Damian. I told you then I thought she was out to get me too. Over the last 4 days and a series of emails, she has made this more than evident....I am getting the ax as soon as I go back. I'm positive of that.
Well, let me just tell you about my week since then! Monday, I was pretty much angry and in a daze. Tuesday and Wednesday I really basically accomplished nothing, but was able to have my doctor keep me out of work a little longer. Score one for Stephanie! Thursday, I planned to spend the day with Mandypoo and Eli. As I was sitting on the couch holding my handsome prince and chatting with Mandy my cell phone rang. The number looked oddly familiar, but I didn't know who it was...so I answered it. The voice on the other end? My old boss! Why was he calling me? He wanted to know if I was tired of the apartment business yet, and ready to come back and work for him?
Wow! What an answer to prayer...J. didn't even know I needed a job. He didn't know I was looking & didn't even know about my cancer. I'm really not sure how since he works in the same office as my sister. Apparently Mandy didn't feel the need to disclose that info to him. So at any rate, he calls out of the blue...and yes, I need a job. There is more to consider than to just jump on the job. Namely the $10K/year decrease in pay. But whether I take the job or not, I believe it was God's way of reminding me He has it under control.
And to one up everything, today I had 3 interviews...well, 2 and a meeting with J. One was an apartment community and the other two were attorneys (what I did before the apt job). And I looked at 3 incredible houses and apartments on my "dream" street. It is like the coolest street in all of Macon, and I found 3 places there! All of them had low deposits (a huge plus), and are moderately priced. What a blessing!
On Monday I needed a job and a home...and today I have 3 opportunities for a job and 3 opportunities for a home. And it's only been 4 days! So I quote myself from Monday's post "Well, mark the date, because I'm positive something will work out, and I'll be better off for it. And be sure to remind me of this next time I whine or worry." And I didn't even get started on the whining or worrying. God is good! I just can't wait to see what's next!Labels: Homes, job |

| Oh the Woes of Life |
| Monday, December 10, 2007 |
Did you know worrying is a sin? I guess it makes sense, but I never thought about it. I'm learning how not to worry. Easier said than done. Life isn't dealing me the hand I had hoped for. I'm trying to find a way to beat a flush with a sorry hand, and not sweat it.
If you've been a long time reader (and by long time I mean 3 months) then you know my boss and I don't have the greatest relationship. She has done some pretty shady things in the past to both myself and other co-workers. Most recently she wanted me to fire 2 employees that I didn't feel deserved to be fired. She just wanted them gone because she wanted to bring in her own crew. I very respectfully explained that I was not comfortable firing them "her" way. Meaning, I'm not going to fire a girl off maternity leave stating we don't need her anymore, and I'm not firing a single dad because she doesn't like the way he keeps his cart. At any rate, within 3 months she had worked her magic and fired them anyway.
In this whole process, I have had several promotions snatched out from under me, though promised to me, and did not get my annual raise. Now, if I deserved it, I would understand, but we are "tested" within the company, and I personally have the highest score in her entire region (approx. 40 employees). On top of that myself and 2 other managers took the CAM (Certified Apartment Manager) course in November, and I am the only one of us who passed it.
So what's up now? Well, Damian has been painting for my apartment community since he returned from Texas. He painted for us prior to moving to Texas, and then again during the summer months he spent here. I had it approved over a year ago that he could paint for us. So when he returned, he began painting again. But today, she emailed me and called my maintenance guy and told him Damian was to stop painting immediately, and could no longer paint for us. She said that because of our relationship he could not work for me. Crazy how it didn't matter 11 months ago, or even 5 months ago.
I have this gut feeling I am next to be canned. And based on my gut history, I have been right about her every time. I'm batting 1,000 when it comes to figuring her out.
My plan? Stay on disability for a while. :) She can't fire me when I'm on disability, I am a protected class. I have a doctor's appt tomorrow, and I'm going to ask my doctor to keep me out of work for the next 3 weeks or so. This will give me time to look for something else. And since I live where I work, this means I have to find a new home too. Oh, the drama!
Well, mark the date, because I'm positive something will work out, and I'll be better off for it. And be sure to remind me of this next time I whine or worry.Labels: disability, job |

| Thank you for calling... |
| Thursday, September 27, 2007 |
In response to my last post...yes I was having a bad day, and yep today is another bad one. Ugh!
Work has been unbelievable this week. First, we have a teenager problem which also entails a loitering and drug problem. Monday, I had 2 kids arrested for selling weed, and 7 others banned from the property. Second, we have a moron problem. Tuesday, I had a husband arrested during a domestic dispute. Third, we have a Macon problem. Thursday, 2 cars were broken into. A stereo stolen from one, and tires and rims stolen off another one. We are 3 for 4 this week, and there's always tomorrow!
For those of you not from Macon, I do not work for a low income community. We aren't the best of the best, but certainly middle class. And we are certainly not on a bad side of town, but after a week like this I would want to break my lease too!
We have decided to start answering the phone...
"Thank you for calling ABC Apartments (Obviously not our real name), where we provide the drama for you!"
or
"Thank you for calling ABC Apartments, where there's never a dull moment!"Labels: bad day, crime, job |
