Because We Can't All Be Normal
Friday, February 29, 2008
I got tagged byMrs. Mandypoo. Doesn't that sound dirty?

So here goes...Why Be Normal?

1. It drives me nuts when people push down on the button on a drink lid. Unless your cup has cola, diet, dr. pepper and tea in it...DON'T PUSH ALL THE BUTTONS! One is sufficient. And DO NOT push my buttons to be funny. It's just not funny. (Mrs. Mandypoo)

2. I often say "huh?" even though I actually heard everything that was said.

3. My closet is completely organized by season and color and always clean. My room, car, desk, and bathroom on the other hand...always a mess!

4. I cannot stand for someone to write on the same piece of paper with two diffent colors. Don't start something in black and finish it in blue!

5. I read sales papers from the back to the front.

6. I won't put sheets on my bed that do not match my room. No exceptions. It drives me in sane.

Okay, so what are your quirks? Feel free to list one below, or to participate yourself. Make sure to leave a comment letting me know you're not so normal either!

Maybe I'm Running the Wrong Race
Monday, February 25, 2008
I think I need a change of pace. Or maybe I'm just running. Maybe both. Maybe I want to know if I'll be chased. Either way, I've applied for jobs in Florida. I like the beach. I dislike Macon. I need a job, so why not. Of course, I am only applying to cities along the coast. I must ask...what is the point in living in Florida if you don't live near the beach? I think it must be like living in the Valleys of Colorado or upstate New York...why would you do that?

Who wouldn't want to live near this?

Who am I kidding, it's more like this...

Second Life
Saturday, February 23, 2008
Have you ever heard of this? Second Life? It is supposedly the new way of life. I just signed up, but I know very little. My understanding is that you create an avatar, and you do life. (Maybe somewhat like Sims) People are setting up business conferences, study groups, and even concerts this way.

My friend Boss Lady will appreciate that recently Bon Jovi performed a concert in Second Life. Each member created an avatar, and set up "equipment" in one of the court yards, with their instruments connected to the computer they performed live for all Second Life members. Afterwards, other members were welcome to "shake hands" with Bon Jovi.

Another very cool story...a couple from England are both fans of Second Life. Their 20 year anniversary was coming up so the husband along with several of their friends rented a ballroom, decorated and set up for a party, and created his wife a beautiful dress. He left her a note to log on at a certain time, and they had an Anniversary party. They danced together for the first time in almost 20 years because 2 months after they married she was paralyzed in a car accident.

And more practically, my friends son has set up a study group where each night they come home and divide up the homework and get it all done. It's networking.

I have just created an avatar. My Second Life Name is "Skittles Latte" You can create your first name and must choose from their large list of last names. You can do business, earn and spend money, open a business, buy and sell land, and even apply for credit.

This just may be the future! See you there!

Bibb school bus collides with truck; 11 students in hospital
By Amy Leigh Womack - awomack@macon.com

Eleven Westside High students were taken to area hospitals after a pickup truck collided with a Bibb County school bus today after 3 p.m. The crash happened at the intersection of Old Columbus and Harrison roads, school officials said.

The bus was traveling east on Columbus Road and the pickup was traveling north on Interstate Parkway when the pickup failed to yield at a stop sign, said Bibb County Sheriff's spokesman George Meadows. The bus T-boned the trunk on the drivers side and the bus veered into a ditch on the side of the road. The drivers of the bus and truck were both taken to area hospitals with neck and back pain and other non-life threatening injuries, said Capt. Cliff Rushin of the Macon-Bibb Fire Department.

Westside principal Laura Perkins said the 11 students were taken to Coliseum Northside Hospital and the Medical Center of Central Georgia. "There didn't appear to be any students in really bad shape. They're shaken up," she said.

Rushin said some of the students may have suffered fractured ankles, bumps and bruises. Perkins said students not taken to the hospital were picked up by parents or transferred to another school bus. "Fortunately it wasn't as bad as it could've been," she said.

I got THE phone call
Friday, February 22, 2008
Last night I was out with some friends for "Diva Night" at our local pottery store. We had just met up to get dinner to take with us when my phone rang. I was actually sitting with my parents because they had choosen to eat at the same place, and I was waiting on the other 2 girls. I looked down, and to my surprise it was the number to home office for my old company in Greensboro, NC. Since I have been trying to get in touch with them for 2 weeks now, you bet I answered it.

I maintained my composure, and explained to the human resource director that I was calling to dispute my termination and the circumstances surrounding my termination, and to file a complaint withtheir office regarding Amy (my old regional manager). I explained Amy's "reason" for firing me, and what had really happened, and as I have done from the beginning, explained that if it were truly against company policy to employ Damian as a vendor then I apologized, but since I had received permission from my direct supervisor, I was not aware I was violating any policy or procedure. But I did understand that knowledge of the policy or not that if it was a policy, then I maintain that I did violate it under those circumstances. (PAUSE! Don't you hate when you think you have tea in your cup and take a big swig only to realize it's Diet Coke? Okay, sorry, that just threw me off for a minute!) I am not going to go into this denying I did anything wrong, because if it really is against company policy, then I was in violation....I own up to that, but what I expect is for my regional to own up to approving it, and that she too was in violation. Neither violation (in my opinion) worthy of termination.

I mentioned the other day that I recently heard another manager had hired her daughter as a leasing agent. There is some question as to whether or not that is true. I have had several reputable people tell me both positively yes and positively no, so that bit of information really is mute at this time. But as I am on the phone (and I think this part should be in bold because it is the crescendo of my conversation)I suddenly remembered that a manager down in Warner Robins and the maintenance tech for that same property are brother and sister-in-law. Keep in mind Mary (HR) has already told me she believes the policy states that no manager may employ their spouse or any other relative as an employee or vendor on their property. My mom's, who is sitting across from me, mouth dropped, and eye brows raised when I said that. And I told HR that it was not my intent to get these employees in trouble, but to simply state that they too are in Amy's region, so she has to have ongoing knowledge of this, and have approved it. The HR lady was floored. She couldn't believe it when I told her this.

The conversation was basically left at this. Mary will be conducting an investigation into the basis of my termination, the approval of the situation down in Warner Robins, and if it is determined that Amy was bending the rules for her benefit and not consistent in upholding the policy then she will be let go, and I will be returned to my position with the company. I told HR I would follow back up with her in 3 weeks, since I felt that would be plenty of time to conduct such investigation and make any necessary changes.

Now say your prayers, and sit back and watch God work!

The Magic of Reading
Thursday, February 21, 2008
It's been a while since I've been tagged, so here we are! Boss Lady tagged me after quoting a book that meant so much to Damian and myself that he actually tattooed a quote from the book on his body. So now it is my turn.

Here are the Rules:

1. Pick up the nearest book ( of at least 123 pages).

2. Open the book to page 123.

3. Find the fifth sentence.

4. Post the next three sentences.

5. Tag five people & post a comment here once you post it to your blog, so I can come see.

It also just so happens that the book I will be quoting is the follow-up book that Boss Lady quoted. Captivating ~ Unveling the Mystery of a Woman's Soul by John & Stasi Eldredge (Best Selling Author of Wild at Heart)

"Okay, we've all heard the story. Martha and Mary. Don't be such a Martha."

I'm going to skip the tagging part. If you a reading a book, do it. It's interesting, and leave a comment to let me know you did. You just might interest me in reading a new book.

They Like Me! They Really Really Like Me!
Tuesday, February 19, 2008
Today, at work I was speaking with our representative for one of the local apartment magazines. She was telling me that the president of the Georgia Apartment Association(GAA) would be at our Middle Georgia Apartment Association (MGAA) meeting tonight. MGAA is just a small region within the GAA. Kinda like a city to a state. She told me that this guy just bought a few apartments in our area and was hiring. She thought I should go to the meeting tonight to meet him. So I did.

It turns out he used to be the Vice President of my old company. He left about a year ago. Now he is the President of another company. He is looking for property managers and regional managers. He remembered me from my old company, and told me he wanted to talk with me tomorrow. They have A LOT of properties (as in over 70). He said several people had recommended he talk with me, so he definately wanted to speak tomorrow. I am SO EXCITED! This means so many things. 1. I do have a good reputation in this town, despite my old boss' effort to destroy it. 2. I may have a job, and 3. If I ever wanted to go back to my old company, this guy on my resume would guarantee it. (Kiss my butt Amy!)

Also, my regional manager from my first property management job came up to me tonight and told me she wanted me back. I didn't enjoy working for that company at all, and am not very interested in going back, but the positive thing is she told me I was the best manager she ever had, and she said it in front of the regional I am "temporarily" working for. So maybe between Walt and Karen trying to rope me up, my temp job may just turn permanent. I guess only time will tell!

P.S. I tried to upload more pictures of the damage from the storm, but my computer was screwing up today. I'm trying to post pictures you can actally see without a magnifying glass. :)

P.S.S. My spellcheck quit working like 2 weeks ago. Anyone else's not working? Anyone know how to fix it?

Storms
Monday, February 18, 2008
We had tornados come through Macon last night. It was terrifying since I was home alone, and Madi and mom were stuck at church. I'm sick today, so I am not at work, but the picture shows storm damage at the apartment community I work at. It was submitted to our local news channel by one of the residents.

Because the Drugs are Good
Sunday, February 17, 2008

I've decided that I will have the next reconstructive surgery on my breast. I was told I have to wait 6 months, which will be this summer. The surgery isn't actually a surgery, it's a process. They will first go in and put a silicone pouch inside my breast above the current skin graft. They will progressively inject saline into the pouch stretching the skin until they have enough extra skin to cut out the skin graft & cover the area.

One thing is for sure....I will not be using the same plastic surgeon. I thought the whole point in using a plastic surgeon is because they made things appear as natural as possible. Unfortunately the plastic surgeon who did my surgery left me with a pretty wide and ugly 7" scar down my arm. I don't think the skin graft not lightening up is his falt, but trust me...the scar on my arm is unacceptable. You know how the military doctors has a reputation of leaving people with some pretty nasty scars...well, I believe my plastic surgeon missed his calling. He's a super nice guy & has the best bedside manner, but when it all comes down to it, he didn't do a good job.

So It's decided. I'm going to go under the knife again...ugh!

Need New Furniture?
Some of you may remember that I bought a new bedroom set back in September. I chose a dark wood very contemporary platform bed. My hope at the time, was to be able to purchase new living room and dining room furniture within the next year. Unfortunately the way things are turning out, I'm just not sure that is going to happen right now. But when I am ready, I will definately check out the furniture from FurnitureFromHome.com. Their prices actually seem very reasonable, including several marked down items. They have a wide variety of furniture from the more traditional furniture that my mother prefers to the more contemporary style which I love.

They have a great selection and good prices on Bed sets, including the very hard to find captains bed, Living Room Furniture, Dining Room, Game Room, and even Home Office Furniture.

The best part is that they have free nationwide delivery. Delivery on furniture is not cheap. Because it is so large, you usually have to pay freight charges, so it's nice to save on those costs.

Now of course, I have not actually purchased furniture from this site, but based on my research, I would be more than willing to give them a try. Maybe if you are in the market for some new furniture, take a look, compare their prices, and let me know what you think.

Don't Make Me Beg....I will do it!
Friday, February 15, 2008
Since January 30th I have been "temporarily" working for a local management company. They had a job for me for the month of February only. They have already hired a manager for the property I am filling in at, but she can't start until March 1. So for 17 days I have worked for this company...and I have to say, I really like working here. I mean, REALLY REALLY like it. The property is only 108 units (I had 220 before), I'm the only person in the office (There were 2 others before), but life is just easier here. It's quiet here. Nobody is setting buildings on fire. No one is stealing cars, or breaking into apartments. The kids are busting the door to fitness center. It's just nice here. I want to stay.

On a side note, I have tried to contact Human Resources for the old company to "tattle" on my old boss. I am going to demand my job back. I don't actually want it anymore, but I'm still going to demand it. My plan is to get her fired, set my assistant up for a promotion & find me another job with another company or property. I really didn't realize how demanding that job was until I left. So I really don't want it anymore. But I want things done the right way. So even if I get my job back, I'm going to quit soon after.

Well, that's it for now.

Damian got me flowers yesterday. First time in our 2 year relationship....it's about time!

Your Mama's Drama
Tuesday, February 12, 2008
I heard some interesting news today. My old boss (the one who fired me for hiring Damian) approved for another manager to hire her daughter as a leasing agent. Isn't it odd that it is a conflict of interest for me as the manager to approve invoices for my boyfriend, but not for this lady as a manager to approve time cards and leasing bonuses for her daughter? Hmmm. She really is just making it easy for me to build a case against her.

Vacation for me?
Thursday, February 7, 2008
I'm thinking of going on a short Vacation next weekend. My parents bought the cabin in Tennessee back a few months ago. With all that has gone on over the last few months (my surgeries, Eli's birth, Christmas, and New Year) my parents haven't even been back up to the house since they closed on it. As in, they haven't even "moved" in to it. So they left this afternoon to take up a load of furniture. It's only a one bedroom cabin, so it's not like there is a lot. Anyway, since they are furnishing it this weekend, I figure I should visit it next weekend. :) I think it'll be a good Valentine's Weekend, but we'll probably take Madi along too.

Do You Understand the Words that are Coming Out of My Mouth?
Monday, February 4, 2008
I had a unique experience today. A deaf lady came in to view an apartment. When she walked in, I stood up and said "Hey" as I would to anyone. She pointed to her ear, and symboled that she needed a pen & paper. She asked to see a two bedroom apartment. So I got my keys, and motioned for her to follow me.

But you see, leasing an apartment is much like selling a car. We go through tons of classes and "sales rallies" to teach us to persuade renters. For example instead of saying "What do you think about the size of the bedroom" you would say "Wouldn't your king-sized bed fit great against this wall." Well, just throw all that out the window when you can't even TALK to the poor girl. I felt like an idiot. I would start talking, only to realize she was totally unaware. Then I felt as if it were an awkward silence. I guess only for me though.

I was thinking on my toes though, so I brought the pen and paper along on the tour. It didn't work well though. I couldn't write the names of the rooms down as quick as she was walking. And really, people already know it's the kitchen, it's just that I'm supposed to say "here is the kitchen" when we walk into it. Writing it however, makes it all seem a little like...well duh!

I just want to kick myself for not finishing sign languange in school everytime I run into a deaf person. (Which so far is like once every 4 years or so...but still!)

*Giggle Giggle* I Said Pooped
Saturday, February 2, 2008
Damian and I were talking once, and discovered that both of us experience something odd when we travel. I noticed it back in my teenage years when I would go to camp and on vacation; my usual "regular" self couldn't go to the bathroom. Any time I go somewhere else it just throws me off. Now I'm usually an every other day kind of girl, so day trips don't do it. But a long weekend, and I might be stopped up for a week.

I bring this up because I just realized that not only does this happen to me when I travel. It happens when I MOVE. A week into my move and I realized I hadn't taken care of business since I got here, and I was long over due. I started getting worried, because it still took 3 more days before I actally made any progress. I do believe that is the longest I had ever gone (and ever intend to go) without handling my business.

So there you have it. Now you know I pooped in potty. I hope you feel better now, because I sure do!
