Spring is in the air but I can't smell it! |
Monday, March 24, 2008 |
Oh, the woes of pollen! Hope everyone had a happy Easter. Ours was great.
My big sister and husband are preggo with baby numero 3, we are crossing our fingers for another boy. So far she has 2 girls, so someone needs to keep Eli company.
High of 58 today. What is that?! It was 80 on Saturday! I'm going to the mountains on Thursday! Woo Hoo!
Now I'm off to blow my nose. Stupid pollen.Labels: baby, pollen, Spring |

Oh No She Di-N |
Monday, March 17, 2008 |
I got in touch with the HR lady with my old company today. I asked her had they looked into my termination and made a decision. Her response (and I'm paraphrasing): After review, I found we have had several similiar situations in the past where an employee employed a relative or friend in a situation where they were responsible for reviewing invoices or time cards, and all were handled in the same manner as your termination. So we do not feel you were terminated wrongfully.
I said "Really?!?" (with sarcasm) "And the situation in Warner Robins where the manager is employing her brother-in-law?" She said she couldn't discuss other people with me, as she wouldn't discuss me with others.
So I closed the conversation by saying, I would like a copy of the Operations Manual where this "company policy" is supposedly written, and a copy of the documents where I signed saying I received an Operations Manual (because the only manual I signed in receipt of is a "Policy Manual" which doesn't list it as a policy.) I also told her, she would hear more from me. (In the form of a law suit, but she doesn't know that.)
And then she said....(and I quote; no paraphrase here) "If there is anything else we can help you with during this transition, let us know." ARE YOU SERIOUS!?! You fired me on bogus grounds, refuse to look into it. And then offer to help me during my "transition." She better be glad that conversation took place across state lines, because I was just pissed enough to do something stupid at that moment!
Immediately after hanging up the phone, I downloaded the EEOC form to file a claim, filled it out and stuck it in the mail to the Atlanta Office. Oh...she'll defininately be hearing from me!Labels: eeoc, wrongful termination |

Blog Party 2008 |
Thursday, March 13, 2008 |
Okay, I have to admit when I first read Mandypoo's post about a blog party I had two thoughts...
1. A What?! 2. I don't have time for that.
But then I looked into it, and honestly, I decided to make time. What a fun way to "meet" other bloggy moms and win prizes at the same time. So Ladies, Welcome to my last minute party!
In the fashion of a last minute party, everything here will be store bought! Who am I kidding?! I don't cook anyway! So enjoy the punch, have a glass of wine, there will be no cheese at my party...sit back and enjoy.
I'm 27 years old, a single mom, and due to life circumstances, I now live at home with my parents.
I have a very bad shopping addiction which knows no limits. I am very close to my family and friends. I'm emotional and opinionated, but hey...who isn't these days? I am a Christian, raising my daughter in a Christian Home, and dating a wonderful man, the way dating was meant to be.
For more random things about me (like you are really still reading this far!) see 8 Random Things, MeMe Fun, and the most telling of all...the Letter to Me(me).
Now, hurry up, come on in, door prizes will be given soon...go check out the complete list. I'm crossing my fingers for the good ole cash from An Ordinary Life, Lori, $25 Amazon Gift Certficiate, $50 Gift Certificate from Paperlicious, $25 Gift Certificate from SkinCareGirl, and many more.
(In order: 59, 55, 119, 61, 70, 20, 60, 140, 130, 3, 53)Labels: blog party |

Is There Really A Question of Mental Illness? |
|
I was reading up on a Chicago woman being charged with child endangerment for leaving her 2 year old in the car while walking up to the Salvation Army bucket in December with her older daughter to donate money. She left her car parked on the curb in plane sight and never entered the store. Seriously, do the police not have more important things to do? How about bust a drug dealer and leave the poor lady and her kids alone!
As I was reading this story, I saw a link for the following story...
Woman sits on boyfriend's toilet for 2 years Girlfriend was physically stuck to the seat — her skin had grown around it
Associated Press updated 3:05 p.m. ET, Wed., March. 12, 2008
NESS CITY, Kan. - Deputies said a woman in western Kansas sat on her boyfriend's toilet for two years, and they're investigating whether she was mistreated.
...
“We pried the toilet seat off with a pry bar and the seat went with her to the hospital,” Whipple said. “The hospital removed it.”
...
“She was not glued. She was not tied. She was just physically stuck by her body,” Whipple said. “It is hard to imagine. ... I still have a hard time imagining it myself.”
He told investigators he brought his girlfriend food and water, and asked her every day to come out of the bathroom.
“And her reply would be, ‘Maybe tomorrow,”’ Whipple said. “According to him, she did not want to leave the bathroom.”
The boyfriend called police on Feb. 27 to report that “there was something wrong with his girlfriend,” Whipple said, adding that he never explained why it took him two years to call.
...
Then, this is my favorite part!
Authorities said they did not know if she was mentally or physically disabled.
I'm pretty sure we can assume something is wrong if you can sit on a toilet until your skin grows around it!
Go to MSNBC to read the whole story! It is truly unbelievable.Labels: weird news |

No More Poo? |
Tuesday, March 11, 2008 |
Is it true? Is it really happening? Is Mrs. Mandypoo leaving us? Nah! She's just looking for a new name, and has asked us, her fellow blogging buddies (and in my case sister) to help her. Though I giggle everytime I or anyone else calls her Poo, and are therefore against her changing her name, unless it is to www.poo.blogspot.com. (J/K)
And I have to say, to all of you who don't read her site, you ought to give it a visit. She is more faithful than I am, has more variety, and has a better grasp on this blogging thing than I do. Too bad she isn't cuter. :)
So seriously, stop by her blog, leave her some love, and maybe even help her find a new name! It just might land you a $10 Starbucks Gift Card!Labels: Mandypoo |

Friday Night Live |
|
Friday night when Madi and I got home after dinner, we walked into my parents house, and my mom was sitting on the couch with my two neices. It's 10:00 and she looks beat! (My mom, not the girls....they were going strong.) So I helped her get them in bed. The little one in the baby bed, and Madi and the 3 year old in mom's bed. I slept in the room with Natalie. Guess who got the better end of that deal? It's a toss up.
The next morning we were getting ready to meet my sisters at Target for some Saturday morning shopping. I was helping Abby (3 year old) get dressed, and I told her I liked her pretty My Little Pony panties. She says "You can't wear them now, but when I take them off you can wear them." I told her I didn't think I could fit in them and she says "They're not too big." Thank you Abby for making me feel like a beauty queen! |

The Clock is Ticking! |
|
We'll time is almost up for my old company to make a decision. Thursday will be 3 weeks since I spoke with Human Resources for my old company. Remember, I told her I would follow up with her in 3 weeks because I thought that was plenty of time for her to investigate my termination and make a decision as far as wrongful termination and discrimination. As of today, my old boss still has a job, which tells me one of two things. Either they haven't bothered to look into the situation, or they aren't going to.
I have already talked with the EEOC (Equal Employment Opportunity Commission) who has said based on my information I have grounds for a claim. This doesn't mean I will win the claim. Filing a discrimination suit is different than just filing a law suit. In State and Federal Court, any one call file suit against anyone (or thing for that matter). If the suit is frivolous, then it is dismissed, or a ruling for the defendant is given. But to file a discrimination suit, you first have to file a claim with the EEOC, and then file suit. But you have to basically have permission to file a claim. If I don't like the answers I get from HR on Thursday, then I will file a claim on Friday.
I haven't told them I was going to file a claim, because my intentions are not to sound threatening. My intention is to resolve this outside of court. If that can't be done, then I will have no choice but to use the court system for what it is for...justice.Labels: discrimination, eeoc, wrongful termination |

I'm Not Sorry |
Monday, March 3, 2008 |
Remember as a child being forced to apologize to someone for something you just weren't sorry for?
This weekend Damian and I went to dinner at a local restaurant right up the road from my parents house. It's called The Red Tomato. We had never eaten there, nor had any of my family, despite the fact it is probably the closest restaurant to their house. On Friday, Damian and I thought we might give it a try, but since we had never been there, and it isn't actually on our way to or from anywhere, we called my Dad (who passes it everyday) to make sure it was still open. He told me yes, but he had heard it was expensive. He elaborated by saying it wouldn't be $30 a plate or anything, but was expensive.
We decided to go anyway. We never splurge, and up until this point, I think our most expensive meal has been Applebees. :) When we got there, we realized, we were supposed to have a reservation. Oops (Sign 1, we are about to pay dearly for this meal). Upon seating us, we were given a wine menu, which also listed several brands of bottled water. $4 for water? Nope, I'll have the wine! :P
Our server was great! The menu listed entrees from $19 to $29. The server listed about 10 others...the "specials." After she left Damian asks me "Does a 'special' mean too expensive to list on the menu?" I say, no...I'm sure their prices are in line with the menu. We think about it, and he gets a Chicken Marsala thing with sun-dried mashed potatoes and the house salad. I get the rack of lamb cooked medium-rare with roasted potatoes and the ceasar salad.
Can I just tell you that we both ate better on Friday night than either of us EVER have. It was unbelievable! We both ate our full salad (Damian's had candied pecans, strawberries, pineapple, grapes, and cantelope on a spring mix with a sweet vinegarette dressing...sorry, just had to share. And my Ceasar...well, it was homemade, but really how do you mess up a ceasar?) and then we ate about half of our meal, when we heard the server going over the dessert menu with the table beside us. I looked at Damian and said, if I eat all of this, I'll be too full for dessert. He agreed. So we decided to stop right there! We had just enough for a full meal for leftovers...so we had dessert too! :)
We had this incredible chocolate cake with strawberry icecream in the middle, and fresh strawberries, whip cream and drizzled with hot fudge. Yes, we ate all of that! :P
When the check comes the server tells us the dessert was on the Chef! How cool is that! So the total of our bill? $60.99 Not too bad in my opinion for all that we had. Wine, Salad, Dinner, and Dessert. Granted I could get all that at Applebees for $35, but that isn't the point. I didn't want Applebees, I wanted something new.
So why it is when I begin to tell people about our wonderful dinner the responses I get are: "Isn't that place expensive?" "I couldn't enjoy a meal I had to pay that much for." "It must be nice to be able to eat like that." "Did you have to go to the back and wash dishes?"
Why should I have to apologize for splurging once? I enjoyed every bite of my $32 rack of lamb...every last bite! Didn't bother me what I payed for it, because it was the best lamb I have ever had.
Truth be told, we will save up and go again. No, we won't go every weekend. We don't have that kind of money, but yes, I will skip dessert at Red Lobster to save up for The Red Tomato!Labels: Dinner, Restaurant |
